Supporting Toynbee Hall

Many large businesses believe the only way to support charities is by writing a cheque. But what if charities need specialist skills and experience that money can’t buy?

RRD is working closely with Toynbee Hall, a charity tackling poverty and financial exclusion in London’s Tower Hamlets — and beyond.

We’re providing specialist pro bono support to help the charity build an online financial wellbeing measurement tool that will be used by organisations across the UK to assess the impact of the services they provide.

“We developed and tested the tool on paper and wanted to bring it online but had very little experience in this area,” said project coordinator Sinéad Marron at Toynbee Hall.

“The guys at RRD helped us prepare the functional specification we needed to obtain quotes for our project and to apply for funding. They helped us through the procurement process — from developing the documentation to selecting our development partner. As a charity, we have limited budgets and limited access to people with these kinds of skills. Their support was invaluable.”

RRD solutions architect Mark Hatton, who had never previously worked with a not-for-profit organisation, described it as a “thoroughly rewarding experience”.

He added: “Toynbee Hall did all the work; we used our experience to advise on best practices, point out possible pitfalls, review documentation and generally provide a safety net to support Toynbee Hall on their journey.”
